- History & Service Overview:
Crossroads established the first group home in the Southern Region of New Jersey to address the needs of homeless, pregnant and mothering teens and their infants in 1988. The program is designed to promote healthy mothers and healthy babies by offering a safe, supportive home environment for 10 teen mothers and their infants. In addition to housing the program offers intensive parenting and life skills training. Teens must attend school and/or work part-time.
- Program Goal:
The program's goal is to empower pregnant and parenting teen mothers to adequately parent their children and to transition to independent living as productive, contributing members of the community.
- Target Population:
The program is Medicaid eligible and accepts referrals from the Division of Youth and Family Services and Value Options for females (ages 15-18 years) who are pregnant and homeless. Generally, the teens who come to Capable Adolescent Mothers (CAM) have been abused and/or abandoned by their families. The teen may stay in the program until the infant's first birthday.
